Notes for William V. Charles BOYLE

William’s mother died two months after William was born, so he was raised by his aunt Mary and her husband Charles Curtis (who may have been his mother’s (Elizabeth Curtis) brother). William is listed on the 1861, 1871 and 1881 censuses as living with Charles and Mary in the township of Fitzroy. This is near the Curtis and Ring families as well. Strangely, there is another William Boyle living nearby (age 25, from Ireland), who is a schoolteacher, living right next to the Robert/Eliza Ring family. Is this possibly another relative?

For William’s second marriage to Susanna Poole, witnesses were Samuel Hudson of Fitzroy, and Mary Ann of “2 wym P of I” or something like that. They were married by Reverend Edward Pick.

In the 1891 census, he and Mary are living in Fitzroy, along with children Albert and Lilly. William is listed as a farmer. They also have a 13 year old female, last name Doran (can’t quite read her first name) from England, and a domestic man from England named Frederick (age 25) living with them.

There is a W. Boyle (as well as a R. Story) listed as being part of the school board for S.S. No. 3, Fitzroy school (Lena Moohouse was the teacher) for Dec. 25, 1902. Amongst the pupils listed are Lillian Boyle, Albert Boyle, Irwin Boyle, Harvey Boyle (the 4 eldest children). William was the Reeve for Fitzroy from 1912-1915, and also served as the township clerk for many years.

Listed in the 1911 census for Fitzroy, Carleton County, along with wife Susan, son Albert, daughter Lillian, sons Robert E. and Harvey, daughter Mary, son Henry P. and daughter Bessy C. He is listed as a farmer.

In the 1921 census, him and Susan have Lily and Bessie still living with them, as well as Harvey & his wife Myrtle, and an employee named William H. Miles (from England).

William had been living in Fitzroy since around 1910. He had suffered a stroke 2 years before he died, and ended up passing away from Ulcerative colitis.
