Notes for Charles “Charlie” BOYLE


In Register #15 for Pakenham-Huntley (for the diocese of Ottawa, Anglican church of Canada), his godparents are listed as William Boyle and Mary Ann Checkley, with Charles P. Emery as the officiant.

Marriage date and place confirmed through Manitoba Vital Statistics record. Charles moved to Manitou,MB after marrying Lottie and drove horses on the rural mail delivery in the 1930’s.

He became quite deaf in his later years.

In the 1891 census, he and his wife live next to his father (who had Charles’ sister Ellen living with him), and two his two younger brothers Henry and Parker, in the Dufferin sub-district in Manitoba. The census was taken June 8th, 1891.

In the 1916 census, they had a boarder (August Bjarnasson) with them.

There is a small write up of Charles attending his sister Ellen’s funeral in Thornhill in the February 10, 1921 edition of the Manitou Western Canadian newspaper:

“Chas Boyle, grain buyer at Boissevain, is spending a few days at his home here. He attended the funeral of his sister, Mrs. Lankin, at Thornhill on Wednesday.”

Charlie, his wife Lottie, and son Clifford are living in Manitou, Manitoba as of the 1921 census.
