Notes for Howard Atwell STOREY

Howard and Alice took over their parents homestead after their marriage in 1920, as they had retired by then.

He is shown, along with his wife, in the Pembina district of Manitoba as a farmer in the 1921 census. There is another family living with them (the husband and wife (Mortimer and Margaret something), and their three kids (Wilma, Delmar and Mortimer).

They had diversified farming, keeping milk cows, hogs, and poultry, as well as growing fodder and feed grain.

The fire that destroyed their home March, 1947 happened while the family was away. With the help of friends and relatives, a new home was built on the site of the old one (and the log house before it) in the summer.

After Allen and Marilyn got married, Howard and Alice built a new home in Manitou, MB. Howard did first aid for livestock in the area, and Alice worked as a nurse at the local hospital.

From Manitou, MB history book:

“They moved to Manitou in 1955, when their son, Allen, took over the farm. Howard continued to help on the farm and also did some veterinary work in the area as long as he was able. He underwent surgery for a malignant brain tumor and passed away three months later.”

Birthplace & date confirmed by Manitoba Vital Statistics record.
