Living in Fitzroy, ON with his father and step-mom in 1911 census. He is listed as a farmer.

In the 1916 census, he was a helper on his brother Albert’s farm in Manitoba, W1, Township 13, Range 9 (Portage La Prairie district).

In the 1921 census, he and his wife, Myrtle, are living with his parents William and Susan, along with two of his sisters (Lily and Bessie), in the Fitzroy township.

According to his World War I recruitment record, he was living at RR#1, Kinburn,Ontario at the time (he was recruited June 11, 1918, with his medical exam in Ottawa). He is listed as single, born in Kinburn, being an Anglican farmer, with Mr. William Boyle (also living at RR#1, Kinburn,ON) as his next of kin. He was 24 years, 1 month old at the time, and was described as 5’11”, with a dark complexion, brown eyes and black hair, with a scar on his right forehead. It looks like he was assigned to the 2nd Depot Battalion, Eastern Ontario Regiment.
