Notes for Thompson “Thompsy” OWENS

No relation to the father Elijah (that I know of). His family (including his parents) moved to the Chesterville district south of Cartwright, Manitoba in 1881, although the Chesterville history book says they moved in 1876. Checked 1881 census - they were still in Ontario at that time, so the Chesterville year is wrong. It also mentions that Thompson and Arminella moved to Winnipeg in 1938.

There is a Thompson Owens born 26 Nov. 1879 in Fitzroy, Carleton County, with Edward H. Owens (carpenter) listed as the father, and Margaret Anderson as the mother.

Listed in 1901 and 1906 census as living with his brother William, and widowed mother Margaret.

Marriage date confirmed by Manitoba Vital Statistics Marriage record (lists place as Roblin, and her name as Anna Milla B).

1911 census has him living with Armanella, as well as Arminella’s parents (Elijah and Mary), and next to his mother and brother William.

1916 census has him and “Ellen” with their kids Roy B. and Pearl, with a Scottish lodger living with them (McPeterson, I think), who was 23 at the time. They are next to Elijah and Mary.

The Cartwright history books mentions that he was an Orangeman.

Barb has him dying in St. Vital,MB.
