Notes for James Gordon “Gordon” BOYLE

Homesteaded SE 10-36-9-W2. As well as farming, Gordon was Justice of the Peace. He was councillor for Division 6 for the year 1923, and served on many boards, including: telephone, Co-op, Credit Union and school board. Moved to town in the late 1940’s where he had an insurance business. Found dead on the street after suffering a heart attack.

In 1927, Gordon and his brother Bill (William) spent 11 days to go 32 miles, to take a 45-90 engine-driven tractor, made by the Sawyer Massey Co., from Lintlaw to the Windy Lake sawmill, owned by the White Bear Lumber Company. It was in operation in November of that year. It later suffered a fire on July 1st, 1929 that burned the planing mill to the ground. It was then sold to Western Construction. The company lasted until 1934, long enough to complete a large grain door contract.
