Notes for Niram L. WINCHELL

He is shown living in the Tobin Township, Indiana in the 1850 census (taken September 12, 1850). He is living with Anna Winchell, age 60 (born around 1790 in New York) - may be his mother?

Witness to his marriage license getting approved was Gabriel Schmuck (local clerk). Their marriage license was issued October 16, 1866, and they were married on October 21, 1866 by Isaac H. Hix.

He first filed for his army pension on July 18, 1889, which was filed from Kansas.

Another filing, from Nebraska, done on Sep 6, 1907, shows Nancy as his dependant, although she is listed under “Widow”.

Nirum and his family are living in Clarkson Village, Nebraska in the 1900 USA census.

His wife’s army widow pension card shows that Nirum was a Sgt and 2. Lt. with the L Company, 13th regiment, Indiana Cavalry. He fought on the Union side. She started receiving payments April 7, 1909. It shows he died December 18, 1915, but since he didn’t appear in the 1910 census, I presume he was in on of the Veteran’s homes.
