Thomas Boyle Family tree - and side branches

Notes for William BOYLE

Married by Rev. Thomas H. Campbell. After they were married, they moved to their new home on the northwest bank of Lake Secord by canoe. (Boyle Bulletin #5). Witnesses were Oliver Sweeney and Martha McKibbon.

When William Boyle and Mary Bowes were about to be married, he traveled to Douglas by canoe. They were married Oct. 24,1864 by the Rev. Thos. Campbell at Golden Lake. Then went to their new home at Lake Secord in the Killaloe area also by canoe. When they were established in their home , a log shanty, the bride made pillows from bags. Filling them with feathers of wild ducks and partridges that William and his brother Henry shot. To get material for pillow slips she cut up and used a white petticoat. She used to tell the men to go hunting when meat was needed. One day when the men were away hunting, Mary and her friend Mary Thomas who was staying with her sighted a deer swimming in the lake. They took off after it in a canoe. They paddled up to it and Mrs. Boyle (nee Mary Bowes) twisted the paddle in its antlers and drowned it. Then they towed it to shore and dressed it. When the men came home, having shot nothing, the girls proudly showed what they had got. The Indians taught her how to tan leather and how to make beautiful moccasins and jackets from deerskin.

Thomasena Boyle (age 20, born 1861) is living with them at the time, as is a Catholic schoolteacher named James Fallen (40 years old, born 1841 in Ireland). I don’t have any Thomasena born around that year, so not sure how she fits in.

Listed in 1901 census as being in Bangor,McClure & Wicklow, Hastings North, ON. His birthday is listed as July 11, 1836.

The family bible of he and Mary shows his birth as July 11, 1836 as well. So, changing it to this from my original July 11, 1837 date.
