Death date from Manitoba Vital Statistics record. 1901 census shows her immigrating to Canada in either 1854 or 1859 (can’t quite read census scan). By the looks of it, James and Mary moved to the USA first, and then to Canada.
Her obituary:”On Wednesday, May 27th, at her late residence near Darlinford, there died Josephine Goodess Stewart, beloved wife of Peter Stewart, aged 55 years, 11 months and 29 days. The funeral took place from the family residence on Saturday last,. Interment was made by Rev. Mr. McKay of Thornhill, at the Darlingford Cemetery. The late Mrs. Stewart was one of the first women in the Barclay district to having come to this country from Ontario 29 years ago. She was the second daughter of Capt. Jas. Barclay, of Blair, Ont., and was married 31 years. Besides her husband she leaves a family of four, one son J.B. Stewart at home; and three daughters, Mrs. Boyle of Saskatoon; Mrs. J. Cowan, of Thornhill, and Miss Jessie, who is at home. A sister, Mrs. Stirton, of Morden, also mourns her loss. Heart failure was the cause of her death, and while ailing for the past three months, she was not seriously ill until within a few days of her death. The entire sympathy of the community is extended to the husband, and family in their sad hour of bereavement.”
