Harvey’s obituary:

THE LATE HARVEY A. THOMAS Hearts were saddened and deeply touched on Nov 8th, on learning of the sudden passing in the Cottage Hospital, Pembroke, of a beloved husband, father, neighbour and friend, Mr. Harvey Alexander Thomas, of Golden Lake, in his 59th year. After finishing his morning work, he was suddenly stricken and death followed in a few hours. Born in North Algona Township, on July 24th, 1906, he was a son of the late Mr John Thomas and Elizabeth Boyle. He was united in marriage on June 21st, 1933 with Goldie Briscoe, who predeceased him on Jan 15th, 1941. To this union was born one son, Roy, who survives. On June 24th, 1944, he was united in marriage with Katie Briscoe, who also survives. He farmed all his life on the Thomas homestead, near Golden Lake. Mr Thomas was appointed as the first Road Superintendent of North Algona Township on March 26th, 1938, an office he still held at the time of his death. He had held this position longer than any road superintendent in the Province of Ontario. Mr. Thomas was a faithful husband and father; a good neighbour and a friend to all. His genial personality and calm, serene nature, had gained for him a wide circle of friends. His loss will be keenly felt in the home and community. High tribute was paid the deceased by the numerous friends who called at the McIntyre Funeral Home, Eganvillle, and by the largely-attended funeral which took place on Wednesday afternoon at the Deacon Gospel Chapel. Mr. Simon Brownson, of Bancroft, officiated at the service using 2nd Corinthians as his text. During the service, Miss Marilyn Bates rendered a solo entitled “He’s The One”. Left to mourn his sudden passing are his sorrowing wife and one son, Roy; two sisters (Eulalia) Mrs. Robert Kilby, of Golden Lake, and (Emma) Mrs. Ernest Spence, of Almonte; one brother, Leslie, of Renfrew. He was predeceased by one sister (Ilva) Mrs. Oswald Kilby. Pall-bearers were his two nephews, Messrs. Walter and Bert Kilby; his three brothers-in-law, Basil Briscoe, Clifford Thur, and Gordon Bates, and a neighbour, Mr. Edward Luloff. Many floral tributes and messages of sympathy were received by the family. Relatives and friends who attended the funeral from a distance were Mr and Mrs Leslie Thomas, Renfrew; Mr and Mrs Simon Brownson, of Bancroft; Mrs Gordon Roesler, of Stittsville; Mr and Mrs Bert Kilby and family, of Sudbury; Mr and Mrs John Black and family and Miss Gurley Griffith, of Barrie; Mr William Griffith, of Ottawa; Mr And Mrs Garry Bates, of Brockville; Mr and Mrs Jack George, Mr Minor McAdam and Mrs Austin Barks, of Ottawa, and Miss Marie Luloff, RN, of Weston, besides many from Pembroke and the surrounding district.
