He was living with the John and Elizabeth Johnston family at 212 Avenue G North in Saskatoon in the 1926 census, as a roomer (along with 4 other roomers). It is this census that says that he was born in Manitoba.

They left the farm to run the hotel/bar in Laura, SK, in spring 1960. They moved to Kimberly, BC in late 1966.
