Notes for Velma Edith MYERS

Obituary from November 13, 2003 Saskatoon Star Phoenix:

BOYLE _The family of Velma Edith Boyle sadly announce her passing on November 8, 2003 at 91 years of age. Velma was born September 24, 1912, the third child of five, born to Martha (McKee) and Hoy Myers on the farm at Vanscoy, SK. She received her education at Vanscoy School. Velma married Berkley Boyle, son of Jean (McNabb) and Harry Boyle of Grandora, December 18, 1933 in Saskatoon. They rented and farmed land near Grandora and Vanscoy several years prior to acquiring the Johnson farm three miles north of Vanscoy in 1942. They sold the farm in 1960 and bought the Laura Hotel. It was destroyed by fire in 1965. They moved to Marysville, BC in 1967 returning to Saskatoon in 1980. Velma resided at Oliver Place from 1996 until September 6, 2003, then Stensrud Lodge the past few weeks. Velma is survived by daughter, Dolly Souster; son, Tom (Linda) Boyle; daughters-in-law, Norma Boyle and Aileen Boyle; sister, Ila Boyle, Marysville, BC; and seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, Kevin (Raelene) Boyle, children, Roberta and Brendan; Karen Boyle, children, Jaime, Darcy and Kyle; Karla Peddie, children, Evan, Ethan, Eden and Elan; Brad (Twyla) Boyle, children, Anthoney and Nicholas; Jennifer Boyle; Gayla (Mike) Moger, child, Anja; DarIa (Dimitri) Dublanica, children, Chance and Dylan. She was predeceased by husband, Berkley (1984); son, Bob (1982); brothers, Clyde (1975), Woodrow (1975); sister, Vesta Olauson (1999); son-in-law, Gordon Souster (1991); grandson-in-law, Scott Peddie (2003). Grandma will always be remembered for her early rising in the morning to enjoy the birds, her gentle smiling nature and the love she bestowed on her family. She always loved a good time: to dance, chat with friends, Blues Jays Baseball and a shot of good whiskey now and again. The service of remembrance will be held at Saskatoon Funeral Home, 338-4th Ave. North, Saskatoon on Friday, November 14, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. Lunch to follow at the W.A. Edwards Family Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. Arrangements are entrusted to SASKATOON FUNERAL HOME, 244-5577.
