Notes for Nada Marie LENSEN

Passed away from cancer. Her obituary from the Melfort newspaper:

IRVINE -Nada Marie Irvine (nee Lensen), of Pleasant Valley, SK, passed away April 11, 2008, at Melfort Hospital, after a brief battle with cancer. She was 76 years old. Nada was born to George and Doris Lensen of Vanscoy, SK on May 2, 1931. She was the fourth child in a family of twelve. She attended Krumpelmann School and the Sion Academy, and went on to obtain her teaching certificate from Normal School in Saskatoon. In 1951 she accepted a teaching position at Melinda School in Pleasant Valley, where she met her future husband. She married Elmer Irvine in 1953 and they had three children: Arnelda, Eleanor and Brock. When they were first married, they farmed for a short period with Elmer’s father before moving to Empress, where Nada taught school and Elmer worked on the projects. In 1957 they moved back to the family farm. Nada accepted a short-term teaching position in Resource before deciding to become a full-time housewife and mother. Nada had many interests throughout her lifetime. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting, wheat weaving, and many other crafts. Her love of plants was obvious to anyone who drove into her yard or stepped into her house. She loved birds and was always quick to set out food when her “hummers “ came back in May. Nada was an active member of the Pleasant Valley Community Club, and worked many long hours compiling information for the Valley’s history book Pleasant Valley Memories, of which she was the editor. She was an avid bowler and brought home many trophies and pins over the years. She was a charter member of the North East Branch of the Saskatchewan Genealogical Society, formed in 1988, and at the time of her passing, held the position of secretary. Nada was a long-time member of the Wheatland Calligraphy Guild in Melfort. Her talent was obvious to those who received her beautiful handmade cards or her exquisitely crafted letters and envelopes. Nada is survived by her husband, Elmer; daughter, Arnelda (Dale) Lawrence and their daughters, Amanda, Jamie and Ashley; daughter, Eleanor (Glen) McIvor and their twins, Brett and Breanne; son, Brock (Barb) Irvine and their children, Dawson, Duston and Jocelyn; sisters, Zona (Walter) Styranka, Carole Steiner, Mary Lensen, Lynda (Bruce) Speidel; brothers, Boyd (Doris) Lensen, Lyle (Irene) Lensen, Keith (Lorraine) Lensen, Neil (June) Lensen, Blayne (Leila) Lensen; and brother-inlaw, Gordon Stack.
