Worked on a farm in the Lintlaw district until he saved enough money to get a train ticket to Winnipeg, where he got employment as a journeyman baker. He ran a bakery in Kelvington,SK, and had one in Wynard,SK at one time.

When they retired, they moved to Swift Current (sometime after early 1968).
