His birth date has also been listed as Jan. 10, 1862. The 1901 census has it as May 10, 1860 (and his brother Joseph living with them at the time).

James was a farmer living in Artemesia at the time of his marriage to Annie. Witnesses to the wedding were Maria Wismer and Mary Neal, both of Flesherton.

The Markdale Standard has his obituary in it’s May 2, 1940 edition:

“James Holley Died Monday

Following an illness of about three months the death occured early on Monday morning, April 29, of a well known Euphrasia resident in the person of James Holley, of the 11th concession. He had not been in good health for some time, but his condition became serious about three months ago. He was 78 years of age.The late Mr. Holley was born in the township of Artemesia, a son of the late Adam Holley, one of the pioneers of that township. He removed to Euphrasia township about 20 years ago. He is survived by his widow, formerly Annie Overland of Euphrasia and one daughter, Mrs. Thos. Wilson, at home. He also leaves three brothers, Adam, near Berkeley and Joseph and Thomas, in Western Canada; and two sisters. Mrs. James Scott, in Alberta and Mrs. Daniel McLeod of Flesherton.The funeral took place from his late residence to Markdale cemetery on Wednesday afternoon.”
