Notes for Jacob Harvey “Jack or Jake” HOLLEY

Lived in Vandeleur, ON, Canada as of 1917. On their marriage record, he is recorded as being 29, and a farmer, from Artemisia, which puts his birth year closer to 1866. Witnesses were Peter E. Holley (his brother) & Mary R. Speer (presume her sister).

In the 1901 census, he is next door to his brother William J. in Grey County, Artemesia Sub-district, along with his wife and adopted daughter Edna C.

Birth Date has also been listed as 22 Sept. 1864.

He was living in Vandeleur at the time of his father’s death in 1917.

HIs obituary on page one of the June 27th, 1935 Markdale Standard mentions that he was in failing health for some years, but he was stricken with pleurisy (pain when breathing, usually caused by something like pneumonia) on Sunday, June 16th. His service was done by Reverend H.S. Warren.

From his nephew’s (Elmer Howard) family history:

He was a farmer, his wife’s name being Jenny Speers. I always admired Uncle Jake. As a boy I spent a good part of my time in their home, as they had no children. He was such a happy fellow always laughing and telling jokes. He was a wonderful provider, a good farmer, and was beyond a doubt the slowest moving person I ever knew. He was also the greatest bargain hunter, and a wonderful fellow, and I loved him.
