Notes for Adam C. HOLLEY

Another source says he died June 14, 1893. He does not show up in the 1901 Ontario census. His tombstone is in Grand Forks, North Dakota (right near the Minnesota border).

From his nephew’s (Elmer Howard) family history:

He died at 26. I never knew him, but I think he can best be judged by his photograph in the family group. He never married. Uncle Chas told me that he was always good and kind to the younger members of the family.

Interesting side note: The Markdale Standard Newspaper published a short retraction of a marriage between Adam Holley and Jessie A. McKenzie, apolgizing that the marriage never took place. Not sure if it was the same Adam or not (Both were listed as being from Artemesia). The Oct. 22, Markdale Standard published the wedding “announcement” of having taken place on October 19. The October 29 edition ran this:”Last week we announced the marriage of Adam Holly to Miss Jennie A. McKenzie. A day or two since we received a letter from Miss McKenzie denying that she was married and politely requesting us to contradict the report which we now do we are exceedingly sorry the mistake occured. The marriage was sent to us, and of course we published it, we are sorry we are not to have the pleasure of congratulating Miss Jessie on the supposed happy event.” There is another Adam Holley (Adam Jr., from Adam and Sarah) born 1860, that may be the Adam referred to here. If it is, he got married to Agnes Gould in October of 1883.

If it was him, he would have been quite young (14), so perhaps it was a prank?
