Notes for Peter Edgar “Edward” HOLLEY

Announcement of their wedding from the November 12, 1903 Flesherton Advance newspaper, page 1 (under “Vandeleur”):

“On Wednesday of last week Mr. Ed Holley of this place and Vina Neely, daughter of Mr. Jacob Neely of Rocklyn, were united in marriage at the bride’s parents. The couple took the evening traing for Brampton to spend their honeymoon.”

According to his obituary, he was born in Artemisia Township, and lived there until 1910 when his family moved to Meaford.

Was living in Meaford in 1917. Lived in the househould next to his parents, with 4 of his brothers and 1 sister, in 1901 census.

Lived in Toronto at the time of his death. His sister Ida (Croft) was at his bedside in Toronto for a few days before he died, and was with him when he died. Sam, Harvey and Everett went to the funeral as well.

From his nephew’s (Elmer Howard) family history:

Peter was a stonemason, who worked with my father. He was an easygoing sort of fellow, a great planner, a good father, and was always kind to me when I was a boy. He used to often see that I had a little silver to jingle in my pocket. He always appeared happy and could see the funny side of life. He loved a joke whether it was on him or the other fellow. He married Vina Neeley, raised six children: Herb, Fred, Myrtle, Olive, Jean, and Margaret. He lived in Toronto in later years where he carried on as a building contractor until he died, comparatively young ‘56 I believe.

His obiturary appear in the Markdale Standard, page 8 of the May 15, 1930 newspaper). He was living at 150 Pritchard Avenue in Toronto at the time, where he had been living for about 10 years. He had been ailing for several months before his death on the evening of May 1. When he moved to Toronto, he was a “respected builder and contractor having built many of the best homes in the district.” It also mentions that he was survived by seven brothers - William in Holland Center, Jacob in Vandeleur, George in BC, Rob and Charlie in Saskatchewan, Isaac in Manitoba, Sameul in Perry Sound, and his sister was in Flesherton. The service was done by Reverend A.P. Stanley at the North Runnymede United Church.
