Recruited for WW I on Dec. 31, 1915. He attestation paper lists his address at the time as Holland Centre,ON, and that he was born Jan. 6, 1897, not 1898 (might have been an age issue with the military?). He is listed as single, and working as a miller. He was quite short; his physical showed him as 5 foot, 3&1/2 inches tall. It also mentions that he had a scar over his right eye. his medical exam was on Dec. 31, 1916, but this is an error since all other signatures, etc. are 1915.

As of his father’s death, he was living in Toronto.
