His daughter Ella’s marriage record shows him as being a plasterer, and of Methodist faith.

He is in the 1890 Chicago census, widowed, and showing as having immigrated to the USA in 1888. From where his wife was born (and the births of their eldest children), it appears that he was living in Canada for several years before moving to Chicago (at least 1885-1888).
