Notes for Dr. Gilbert Erwin STORY

Middle name from 1891 census for Pakenham, where he is with his parents, and at age 14.

Gilbert (then living in Viking, Alberta) and Edith were married by Archdeacon Carey in Edmonton. The wedding announcement from the August 28, 1907 Edmonton Bulletin stated that Gilbert had graduated as a doctor from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario.

By the 1911 census, he appears to be married to Edith, and living in Viking, Alberta (on 2nd Street), where he is listed as a medical doctor.

Gilbert (listed as a doctor) and Edith are still living on 2nd Street in Viking, Alberta, in the 1916 census.

By the 1921 census, Gilbert and his family had moved to Edmonton, Alberta, and there daughter was born. They also had a domestic living with them name Laura Bowman, age 25. He is still listed as a medical doctor.

There is a record of him crossing the border to the United Sates (at Babb, Montana, which is SSW of Cardston, Alberta) on July 14, 1930, along with his wife and daughter. The contact name they used was for a Dr. L. D. Draas.

There is mention in his daughter’s obituary that the family had stayed in France for some time, for him to study surgery.
