Notes for John HUNT

Contracted a fever during the sea voyage from Ireland, dying from it soon after they landed. His mother, still unsettled from leaving Ireland, the rough sea voyage, and the tiresome journey up the Ottawa River to get to Fitzroy, went across their new land looking for a suitable place to bury John. She chose a triangular shaped area on the banks of a brook flowing into the Mississippi River, and buried him under the shade of an elm tree, a few hundred yards from the rough log shanty where they lived. John’s parents were both buried in the same spot, and it is now informerly known as the Hunt Cemetery.
