Richard kept a wayside inn for the trains and men going through the Golden Lake area, taking in supplies for lumber camps, etc. He passed away from stomach cancer, which he had suffered from for 2 months. He death registration says he was a farmer. The birth registration for his daughter Mary Esther (registered April 18,1881 for her birth on November 7, 1880), also shows him as a farmer.
