Following info from Lintlaw history book:

Took over the family farm after his parents and 6 youngest siblings left in 1947. He served in 1st. Division Royal Canadian Corps of Signals (RCCS) from 1941 to 1946, and was stationed in England, Sicily, Italy,France, Belgium, Germany and Holland. He was awarded the Military Medal in 1945 for service above and beyond the call of duty for repairing communications lines under enemy fire.

He lived on the farm that his parents were on from 1946 until 1953. In 1954, he joined the RCAF and they moved away from Lintlaw.
