Notes for Rupert Glenn Arnold “Glenn” LOWRY

Worked at the Winnipeg Free Press for 45 years (most as District Manager).

His obituary from a Winnipeg newspaper:RUPERT GLENN ARNOLD LOWRY Following a short illness with heart disease, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother on February 14, 2001 at Concordia Hospital at the age of 62. He leaves to mourn and miss him very much his beloved wife of 40 years Stella; son Robert (Rosa), daughter Dianna (Allan) Sveinson, son Geoffrey (Kathy) grandsons, Bryan and Zachary Sveinson; brothers, Lyle, Richard (Lynn), Darrell and Valerie (Donna) numerous nieces, nephews and brothers-in-law, Anton (Jo-Ann) Prosolowski, Mike (Peg) Prosolowski; sister-in-law Linda Prosolowski and sister-in-law Josie (Paul) Martel. Rupert Glenn was born October 11, 1938 to Howard and Mabel Lowry and grew up in Darlingford, MB. He was employed at the Winnipeg Free Press for 45 years, most of them as a District Manager. He had a remarkable memory in that he remembered all of his carriers and co-workers, even many years after seeing them. He was a wonderful artist, drawing, carving and painting wildlife. Summers were spent at the cottage at Beaver Creek. The falls were spent hunting with his extended family, Bruce and Jim Wade. He had many close friends, the Garbes, the Flemings, the Wades, the Lindbergs, the Beers, and very many more who cared and who will miss him very much. He was a member of the Manitoba Gun Dog Association, and training his beloved Black Labradors, Dixie, Gypsie, and Kelly. He was also very proud of his grandsons and loved to hear about their hockey games. In July, 2000, Rupert and Stella took a trip to Alaska, a dream Dad had for a long time. Many thanks to the paramedics and hospital staff who tried so hard to help him. A very special thank you to Drs. M. Shnider and S. Sinah for the kindness, understanding and the care you gave him. We did not know that morning What sorrow the day would bring The bitter grief, the shock severe To part with one we love so dear. In tears we saw you sinking, We watched you fade away You suffered much in silence You fought so hard to stay You faced your task with courage, Your spirit did not bend But you still kept on fighting Until the very end. God saw you getting tired When a cure was not to be, So He put His arms around you And whispered, “Come to Me” So when we saw you sleeping So peaceful, free from pain We could not wish you back To suffer that again. Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 20 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. A reception will follow in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre. “Happy Hunting and Trailing Dad, Love you Always” Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
