Notes for Lillian Evelina JOHNSON

Birth name, date and place verified with Manitoba Vital Statistics record. Mother’s maiden name listed as Zenie Story.

Her grave is one of the ones listed in the Manitou history book. The cemetery was originally called the Archibald Cemetery, later renamed to Manitou Cemetery.

A thank you from her parents for all that helped with the funeral can be found in the August 23, 1900 Manitou Sun newspaper. It mentions there that Walker was in “Dakota” (not sure if North or South) at the time, and was not able to get home in time for the funeral.

Full text of above newspaper article: “Mr. and Mrs. Walker Johnson wish to tender their thanks, through the Sun, to the kind friends who rendered their assistance on the occasion of the death and interment of their only child, and also to those who so thoughtfully decorated the little grave with flowers during his absence from home. Mr. Johnson was in Dakota at the time of the death of the child and could not reach home in time for the funeral.”
