The Stevenson’s in the Mortlach area started coming out west in 1904-1905, with the first briefly staying in Manitoba. The district north of Mortlach where they settled became the Stevenson School District.

Thomas and his two sons Harry and Jim (teenagers at the time) moved to Mortlach in 1904 and filed on homesteads (this was when it was still the Northwest Territories).
