Notes for Sapper Peter Foy FARR


Killed in action in World War I. His WWI papers listed him as a Fireman, GTR, and he was recruited on March 4, 1916. He is listed as being 6 feet tall, fair complexion, blue eyes and light brown hair. Sapper is his rank; it is the equivalent of a Private who has completed the Engineer DP1 course. He was with the Canadian Railway Troops regiment.

The official report of his death:

“Died of Wounds”Whilst washing, together with some comrades, on his return to camp after completion of the day’s work in the town of Ypres, he was wounded in both legs, arms and left chest by the explosion of an enemy shell. His wounds were immediately atteneded to, but he succumbed in the 134th Field Ambulance, before reaching a Casualty Clearing Station.

It should be noted that this report shows his death being Jun 6, 1917, while his tombstone shows June 7.
