Notes for Dr. Donald Alexander HOLLEY

Far too much informaton to list here, but Dr. Holley wrote an autobiography, called “Don’t Shoot from the Saddle (Chronicles of a Frontier Surgeon)”, published by Heritage House just after he died, that is filled with stories about his life, and those close to him.

A couple of highlights - raised until age 13 in Lucky Lake, SK, and then took the train to BC, took medical training in Edmonton, interned in Victoria, worked for a year in the Northwest Territories, had residencies in general surgery in Montreal, New York City, the Cleveland Clinic, and Calgary; started the intensive care unit in Quesnel, BC, did frontier surgery up north, headed the BC Surgical Society for some time.

He divorced from Donna in 1974.

He retired from surgery in 1984, and suffered from a stroke in 1997.
