Notes for Donna WEPPLER

Donna’s family moved from Saskatchewan to Victoria, BC in the 1940’s.

She was proposed to by Donald in Victoria, BC, just before he left for Montreal to be a senior intern.

Her obituary:

Farewell to Donna Mae Holley (Weppler):Donna was born in Morse, Saskatchewan, sister to Dorothy, on June 23, 1931. Donna, Dorothy, Mom, Eva and Dad, Harry, soon left Saskatchewan, moving to Victoria in the 1940’s. Donna attended Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria and graduated as a Registered Nurse in the early 1950’s. She met Dr. Alex Holley while at school and they were married later in 1953. They settled in Quesnel where the Holley Clinic was established. At that time, a husband/wife could not work in the same hospital so Donna left the nursing profession and became a full-time mother to four adopted children (Alison, Ken, Rob and Marissa). Her life revolved around the children at that time and the duties, including acting ranch hand and various other things that came with being wife and mother to four very busy kids on a 187 acre ranch in the country.Unfortunately, Donna and Al divorced in 1974. She moved to Vanderhoof and returned to the nursing profession, giving of her time and expertise to not only become head nurse, but also one of the best mentor nurses the Vanderhoof hospital ever had. She retired in the late 1990’s but continued to live in Vanderhoof until making the move back to Quesnel to live with Marissa and Bruce Amiot. For the next 5 Years, Donna spent time out on the Barkerville Highway with Marissa (Mouse) and Bruce until it was necessary to have her placed in a home due to her health. For the last 6 years she has been a resident of Maple Lodge in the Dunrovin facility. Mouse and Bruce continued to visit her daily until she passed peacefully on August 14 at 9:55 pm.She was Grandma to Alyssa, Devan (Ken and Marsha) and Sherri (Robert and Pichu). Mom did not travel very much, preferring to spend her time off fishing, camping and even hunting. With her dog in tow, she could be seen driving her VW van, and then later her blue truck with the camper on top, heading for the wilderness, not to be found until time for work again. The family would like to thank the crew at Maple Lodge for all the care and support of mom during her final years. As well, we personally would like to thank our sister, Mouse, and Bruce for all their loving and personal care of mom when she moved in with them after leaving Vanderhoof. In lieu of flowers, the family would request that you make a personal contribution to any nursing college in your area. The Holley family
