Notes for Jacob THOMPSON


Jacob was a farmer at the time of his marriage to Sarah, living in Artemesia. Witnesses were John Bater and Catherine Irwin, both of Flesherton. They were married by S. Philip Jr.

1901 Census (Grey East, Artemesia) has a cousin Ida Thompson living with them, as well as 2 boarders.

His obituary in the Flesherton newspaper, Feb. 7 1923, read:

“Mr. Jacob Thompson

Mr. Jacob Thompson passed away at his home on the east back line on Friday, Feb. 2, after a lingering illness, at the age of 66 years. He was born on the farm where he died. He was married about 44 years ago to Sarah Irwin, sister of the late Samuel Irwin, who survives him.There were two boys and two girls in the family--Robert of Osprey Mrs. B. Ferris of Flesherton Mrs. W. Holley of Markdale, and Charles in Gergovia, Saskatchewan.The funeral took place to Meaford Road cemetery on Monday, with service at the home conducted by Rev. Mr. Fowler. The pallbearers were Richard Bentham, Joseph McKee, Wm. and Charles Stewart, and James Beatty.The brothers and sisters of deceased are James in Michigan, Wm. in Duluth, Robert at Kimberley, David and Mrs. Charles Wickens in Flesherton, and Mrs. John Plewes at Kimberley. Two sisters--Mrs. Goodall and Mrs. Harris--are dead.”
