Of German descent (from 1901 census). His obituary mentions that he had been in Manitoba for 30 years, so he would have arrived around 1878. It also mentions that he was a member of the Methodist church for over 50 years and an official in the church most of that time. It states that he was 84 years and 11 months, which means his birth year should be 1823, not 1824.
