William and his family are in Fitzroy in the 1871 census. He is listed as a carpenter. There was another carpenter, William Cook, from Ireland, living with them at the time. The census was taken around August/September of 1871.

By the 1891 census, only William, Eliza, and their two youngest daughters (Ida & Minerva) are still at the house.
