Fitzroy history book has him immigrating to Canada in 1826. The Lowrys are decended of French Huguenots who fled from France to Great Britain during the St. Bartholomew massacres of 1572. The name comes fro the Loir Valley in France, where they had settled. The name started as De Loire, eventually changing to Lowry as the moved from England, to Scotland, to Ireland.
