Emigrated to Canada in 1893 with his wife and 2 eldest children. He was a teacher in Poland. First job in Canada was digging sewers for City of Winnipeg. After learning English, worked for the CPR steamship division, helping newly arrived immigrants from Europe. He could speak/read/write German, Polish, Ukranian and Russian.

Listed as Louis Lentz in 1901, 1906 census for Brokenhead, Manitoba. Shows that he immigrated from Russia in 1897, along with his wife Julianna and daughter Olga.
