Notes for Henry Frederick “Fred” PARCHER

From E. Howes:

Fred’s son William wrote that “My father left Ontario around 1890 for Duluth, Minnesota. He went back to Canada in 1901, one of several trips to see his mother, and married Katie Boyle. He returned to Minnesota with his bride. When she died in 1903, he took her back to Ironprior (Arnprior) Ontario for burial. He returned to Minnesota where he lived until 1908. He went back to see his mother and married Mary Robertson Glen.”

Another family member, Daisy Moore, wrote:”Fred Parcher, Granny Watts’ son, went to live in the bush near Duluth, Minnesota. He came to visit us at 54 Poplar Street for about two weeks about September, 1911, and courted and married a friend of Pearl’s. Her name was Mary Glenn, a Scottish girl. In may, 1912, just before the typhoid epidemic in Ottawa, Mary came to visit and was expecting her first child. She took me with her to Scotland - Edinburgh. We left a month after the Titanic went down. While there, her first son, Glen was born. That summer, her two brothers, David and Whitfield, took typhoid, and Laura nursed them through at 54 Poplar Street. We came back to Ottawa on November 4 or 5, 1912. A little over a year later, Mary was expecting her second child, born January 17, 1914 and called William, at our house. She had two more boys, but the last we heard of them was that Mary took the oldest and the youngest and left Fred and went either to Scotland or South Africa. She had a brother there.”

The 1905 USA census for Leiding, St. Louis, Minnesota shows him as a single male, immigrating to the USA from Canada in 1895, with his father born in England, and his mother born in Canada. He is living with many others of many names at the time. He is listed as H Fred Parcher.

E. Howes also mentions that Fred (listed as Henry), Mary and sons Glenn and Will are listed in the 1920 census for Bovill Village, Latah County, Idaho. Fred is listed as becoming a naturalized citizen in 1890 in PA (Pennsylvania?). Both sons are listed as being born in Idaho.

Barb has their marriage being in Ottawa. The Schedule B record has Fred being born in Renfrew, and living in Duluth at the time of his marriage to Kate. He was a railway man at the time. Witnesses were Wellington Boyle and Annie, both of Combermere. There were married by Mr. Snowden.
