Obituary:

The passing of Alice Maude Franke, age 90 years and nine months, occured Sunday, December 24, 1989 at Parkland Care Centre, Melfort.

Alice was born March 10, 1899, to George and Olive Townend in Winnipeg. She came west about 1912 to the Clair district where she resided until her marriage to Roy Franke on October 8, 1918. They farmed southwest of Clair until 1937 when they moved 10 miles north of Clair and continued farming. Both Alice and her husband were very involved in horse racing and baseball circuits. Alice retired from farming in 1964 when she moved to Quill Lake. She had her first leg amputated in 1967 and her other one in 1968. She cared for herself in her home until 1979 when she had a stroke and was taken to hospital in Wadena. On January 28, 1980, she was moved to Parkland Care Centre where she resided until death.

Alice was always interested in her community and kept very busy doing needlework for the churches and friends.

She was predeceased by an infant daughter in 1919, by her husband Roy in November 1948, and by four brothers and five sisters, one being Liz Butler in 1984.

She leaves to mourn, many nephews (including Ernie Butler) and nieces, and many friends.
