There is a marriage record for California, dated August 17, 1901 in Marin County, California (north of San Francisco, southwest of Petaluma), that shows John McCarthy marrying Katherine Burke, but I am not positive that this is them.

Both the 1910 and 1920 census shows him being born in Ireland, so I am going by this rather than his birth state being Massachusetts, which is shown on Mary’s marriage license.

The family is shown in the 1910 census for Contra Costa, California, although the youngest daughter is shown as “Hattie E.” (Florence’s middle initial is shown as “J.”, and Mary’s as “E.”, which matches her wedding license’s full name). Contra Costa is the county in which Porta Costa is (which includes Concord as well).John and Katherine are shown as being born in Ireland, and John having immigrated to the USA in 1891.

They are shown in the 1920 USA census living in Porta Costa, California (which is in Contra Costa County), with their three children.
