Notes for Sarah Jane GREGORY

There is a Sarah Jane Gregory, age 13, in the 1871 census for District Wellington North, Sub-District Arthur, that may be her. If it is, then her parents are John Gregory (age 48, from England), and Frances Amelia (maiden name unknown), age 50, from New Brunswick (of Scottish descent). She also had an older brother John William (age 18), and younger sister Martha Priscilla (age 11) and younger brother David George (age 7). Their location isn’t too far from where her future husband was born. If this is the right family, it looks like they moved to the township of Eramosa (Wellington South District) by the 1881 census. By this time, only John, his wife Frances (spelled Francis in the census), Sarah and younger brother George (David) were in the same household.

The place they were married (“Beautiful Plains”) in Manitoba is now called Arden (east and a little north of Neepawa). There is also another Gregory/McKee wedding there the following month (John Gregory and Sarah Jane McKee on May 24, 1883), both of whom may be related.
