Notes for Samuel C. RANSON

There are numerous ads in the Minnedosa Tribune newspaper from the early 1890’s talking about “Ranson’s Carriage Shop” on Main street, sold sleighs, cutters, buggies, did repairs, etc. These ads are shown by “S.C. Ranson”. There is mention in at least one of these ads of a “David Ranson” being the manager - a brother, perhaps? (See Feb. 19, 1891 Minnedosa Tribune for an example).

In the 1891 census, Samuel is farming next door to his wife’s parents, and they have their 1 year old son with them. In this census, it states that Samuel’s father is from Scotland, and his mother from Ireland, and he is born in Ontario.

Birth date from 1901 census.

They are in the RM of Marquette in the 1906 census (taken July 14).

They are still in the RM of Marquette in the 1911 census.

In the 1916 census, he is listed as being of Irish descent, and a farmer, in the RM of Odanah, Manitoba, along with his wife and kids.

They are still in the RM of Odanah in the 1921 census.

His wife’s death certificate from October 5, 1959 states that she was widowed, so he passed away before then.
