Notes for Mathias Charles “Charles or Charlie” WEINHANDL

At the age of 14 he went to Vienna to work, and then at age 16 he went to Brighton, England, working as a bellhop in hotels. Came to Canada on the Lake Erie in April 1904, initially staying at Hamiota, Manitoba. He filed for a homestead in Saskatchewan, completing his first shack on Dec. 2, 1905. He obtained his patent on October 22, 1909.

There is another Weinhandl (Wendel) who was born in 1890 in Illmitz that also lived in the Lintlaw area, that may be a brother or cousin to Mathias.

He was a justice of the peace, and served on the Woodstone School District board for many years.

Died suddenly after dropping his son George off at the train for embarkation leave.
