He is living with his parents in the 1921 census. He is listed as a painter. He was a Sapper (combat engineer) in World War I. His tombstone says he was born in 1892, but his attestation paper says he born in 1893. He signed up on July 31, 1915 in Ottawa. He was described as being 5’5”, of fair complexion, blue eyes and light brown hair, and was certified fit for duty on July 31, 1915. He was approved for the 77th Overseas Battalion on October 19.
