Archie served overseas for 4 years (army). He spent 25 yrs as a farm instructor and then Indian Agent on the Cote, Keeseekoose and Key Reserves. He retired in 1963 due to ill health and took to farming in the Arran district, which he was still doing when he died in 1969.
