Notes for Peter Whyte MENZIES

His last name has been spelled both “Menzies” and “Menzie”, even on birth records (on familysearch.com).

He was living in Pembroke at the time of his marriage to Isabella, and was an engineer at the time. Witnesses to the wedding were John Johnston and Martha Sweeney, both of Pembroke. They were married by Reverend Ballantyne.

In the 1891 census, they are living in Aylmer, Quebec, and Peter is listed as a railroad engineer (he worked for the CPR).

In the 1901 census, they are living in Ottawa. His wifes name is mispelled “Esabell”, and they have 5 children with them (James, John, Garnet, Albert, Mary). It shows Peter immigrated from the USA the year he was born (1855), and that he was of Scottish descent. It also shows that he was an Loc. Engineer.
