Notes for James Aaron COWAN

James and his family are living in the Lisgar district of Manitoba at the time of the 1901 census. They also have a domestic with them, Frank Evans, who had immigrated from England only a few years earlier. That census says that James was born in Ontario, not Quebec.

In the 1906 census, he is shown as being born in Quebec again, and they lived on a farm near Thornhill. Frank Evans is still with them at this time.

Frank is still with them in the 1911 census, and Robert is still at home as well. James is still farming.

The 1916 census (taken June 2-3) shows the family still on the farm, but with a farm laborer named Fred Hughes living with them at that time (a 26 year old born in Manitoba). Both James and his son Robert are listed as farmers, and it also shows their middle names for the first time.

By the 1921 census (Pembina municipality), it is just the family living on the farm (James, Margaret, and Robert).
