Obituary from the Beulah, North Dakota Beacon, January 6, 1977:

“Funeral services for Freddie A. Ellwein, 59 years of age, were held at 10:30 am Monday, Dec. 27 in Trinity Lutheran Church, Sidney, Mont. Burial was Tuesday, Dec. 28 in Custer National Cemetery.He died of a heart attack Tuesday, Dec. 21 at his home and was in poor health for nine years.He was born Aug. 22, 1917 in Hazen, to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ellwein (Ruth Merting).He attended schools in Otter Creek. He moved to Sidney, Mont. in 1937 to work as a carpenter. Later he worked for Holly Sugar Co. He retired in 1971 because of failing health.He was a member of the 163rd Infantry of the Montana National Guard, was discharged in 1941. He to the Army in 1942, served in the South Pacific and Philippines. After his discharge in 1946, he returned to Sidney.He married Eileen Zieske in 1948.He is survived by his widow; two sons: Richar, Bozeman, and Timothy at home; two daughters: Mrs. Charles Newell, Billings, and Kimberly Ellwein, Great Falls; four brothers: Earl. Sidney, Warren of Portland, Ore., Milton. Oscoda, Mich., and Clarence of Spokane. Wash; two sisters: Mrs. Lloyd Ellen Scoles. Sidney, and Mrs. MErrill Ruth Alling, Helena.(Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney were in charge of arrangements).”
