Notes for Harlan H. STEINLEY


Harlan Steinley, 85, Bismarck, passed away Jan. 4, 2014, at a Bismarck hospital. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6, at Bethal Lutheran Church with the Rev. Tim Jenkes officiating. Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Harlan grew up in the Carson area and in his teens he moved to Sidney, Mont., to live with his uncle Paul and Aunt Lola Steinley. In 1946, he joined the U.S. Army and served overseas in Germany as a military policeman. Harlan married Bernice Johnson in 1949 and they began their ranching career and together had two daughters.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice; two daughters, Sheila (Jim) Werner, Mandan, and DeLana (Doug) Bauer, Laurel, Mont.; five grandsons, Jeffrey (Priscilla) Werner, Carson, Todd (Patricia) Werner, Round Rock, Texas, Corey (Heather) Werner, Caldwell, Idaho, Kale Bauer, Billings, Mont., and Cole (Becca) Bauer, Bozeman, Mont.; six great-grandchildren, Jessica, Ashley and Laredo Werner, all of Carson, Matthew, Joshua Werner, Round Rock, Texas, and Haylee Werner, Caldwell, Idaho; and his sister, Audrey Skretteberg, Carson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers; and a great-grandson, Garrett Werner.

Harlan was also a Sgt in WWII with the US Army.
