Notes for Cpl. Thomas Henry POWNALL


Thomas enlisted (at age 38) for World War I. He was listed as 5’, 9.5”, medium complexion, blue eyes and brown hair. He was certified medically fit on August 4, 1915, and he was a clerk at the time of his attestation paper. He had served 1 year with the C.M.R.S.A prior to signing up for the war (not sure what that stands for). His tomsbstone in Canada (he is not buried there) has his and his parents surname as Pownall, while his world war I records have Pownell.

He was killed in action in France, as a member of the 77th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force, accord
