His tombstone apparently says he was born in June, not January. The Kansas Trails history book, published in 1910, mentions that he and his wife immigrated to Kansas in 1869, freighted from Emporia to Wichita by mule team. He also held various public offices, and was a member of the school board, in Wichita. He was also a member of the Knights of Pythias and the First Presbyterian Church.
