Notes for Jozsef “Joe” KELLE

Jozsef immigrated from Ér-Selind,Hungary (which no longer seems to appear on maps, but was a municipality, I believe in Budapest), on the ship Ultonia. His last name at this time was spelled “Kele”). He had left Fiume (sp?), and arrived in Ellis Island, New York on November 27, 1911.

There is a World War I registration card for him in Dayton from June 5, 1917 (although his last name is still spelled “Kele”). It describes him as tall, slender, brown eyes, with brown hair. It states that he has a wife and 2 children, and that he had been a private in the infantry in Hungary for 8 weeks, and that he requested a claim exemption to “Support Wife and Children”. He was working in Dayton, Ohio as an alien (non citizen), I believe as a molder for Malleable Iron Works in Dayton.

He has a World War II registration card, that gives some specifics about his birth, from April 25, 1942. He is listed as being 5 foot 7, 168 pounds, brown eyes, dark complexion, and having grey/brown hair.
